Home Maintenance Tips For Spring!

Being a homeowner is certainly rewarding, but that doesn’t come without a solid amount of hard work! We would love to tell you about some quick life hack that makes it a breeze, but the truth is, you just have to take the time to do things right! However, we do want to help you with some home maintenance tips for spring!

Why Is Home Maintenance Important?

First, home maintenance can have an immediate effect on your comfort and quality of life. After all, you won’t be very happy baking in the heat without a working A/C. Second, it will help make your home a safer place to live by removing hazards or ensuring you’re prepared for an emergency. Finally, it allows you to take care of problems early, before they snowball into savings-account-clearing issues.

Okay, enough about the why and let’s jump into some tips!

Issues on the outside of your home can quickly find their way inside, so it’s crucial to inspect the exterior for damage!

Check The Roof

Missing shingles, holes, or other things can lead to leaks, water damage, and mold. Sealing a hole is reliably quick and easy compared to removing mold from your entire attic!

When checking your roof, make sure you’re doing so safely. When in doubt, call someone to check it for you!

Inspect The Foundation

Same situation as the roof! Check for cracks or anywhere water might leak into the home. Take care of it now and save yourself the bigger headache.

Clear The Gutter

They might be hanging loose, or they might be clogged up with debris, either way, you’re going to want to fix that!

Not to sound like a broken record (sorry, not sorry), but this is just another way water can leak into your home and cause a bigger problem.

If you don’t want to climb up a ladder every season to clear out the gutters, you might want to look into getting gutter guards as well. They’re pretty fantastic and save you tons of time and money down the road.

Reseal Windows and Doors

Take a look at all your windows and doors to make sure there are no small openings. If there are, you’ll want to cover those gaps by filling them or installing rubber door sweeps.

Not only will this keep out pests, but it will also make your home more energy efficient.

Check Your Gear

While this one isn’t strictly “home maintenance” it will definitely help with it in the future!

While you’re outside checking out the house, make sure to pull out your lawnmower, weed wacker, or any other equipment you own. Check the blades, power cords, batteries, or anything else that might need a look.

Figuring out something doesn’t work now, means avoiding pulling something out only to find out you now need to take a trip to the hardware store before you can cut the grass.
